a welcome companion
[1]
a tiny fly
flies low and high
buzzing circles setting on a straight line tact with sudden
and abrupt hook
then alighting
like a feather on a leaf
lithe and light as a thief
[2]
a tiny fly
landed on my book
reading interrupted/
(intriguing me)
so golden translucently cute and busy in its way
(pleasing me)
i had to stop/to look;
[3]
the page left photo frozen… my mind diverted… mid-sentence held… unable to turn… to be turned
concentration disrupted/
while he or she
prances on the paper
on and between the lines… tightrope on the paragraph… stepping up the indention
feeling the words written
touching the authors’ message to which i am smitten
the eloquence of message given;
[4]
i wonder with those thin little legs
and
stick ends for feet
the tiny fly treats the ink as bumps in his or her path
and
steps quickly moving along
letters collected as if in a field plowed for corn
the rows rise with dirt roughed
and troughs sit low between
this tiny fly
is fleet among the furrows;
[5]
i wonder what it is that tiny fly sees
what he or she has seen
for that tiny fly has a perspective
a man of my size does miss
the little things on this earth that go by my eyes
in places i have never been
with no notice thus no comment
nothing sighted so nothing to say
[6]
i let the tiny fly have his or her time
move in what looks like random weaving/
yet may be completely
preplanned in way i was not perceiving/
perhaps a random layover more likely a search for food or a home to stay
that is well thought out and followed yet secretly and deftly deceiving/
nonetheless the tiny fly is a welcome companion any day.

a tiny fly
made a big impression when he or she visited me today.
